When Your Spark Feels Dim

Remember the excitement you felt when you started your business? The endless possibilities, the drive to make an impact—it was all so clear. But lately, that spark feels harder to find.

If you’re a neurodivergent entrepreneur, balancing the demands of your brain and your business can sometimes leave you feeling disconnected from your “why.”

Let’s reignite that passion by reconnecting with your purpose, rediscovering joy in your work, and aligning your business with what truly matters to you.

Why Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs Lose Their “Why”

For neurodivergent folks, the entrepreneurial journey often comes with unique challenges:

  1. Executive Dysfunction: Keeping all the plates spinning can feel impossible.
  2. Burnout: Hyperfocus drives productivity, but it’s not sustainable long-term.
  3. Misalignment: Saying yes to the wrong opportunities can pull you away from your true purpose.

Good news: Your “why” hasn’t disappeared—it’s just waiting for you to reconnect with it.

What Is Your “Why”?

Your “why” is the driving force behind your business—the deeper purpose that fuels your work. It’s not just about making money; it’s about the impact you want to have on the world.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • What inspired me to start my business?
  • Who am I trying to help or serve?
  • What legacy do I want to leave?

How to Reconnect with Your “Why”

1. Reflect on Your Values
Your values are the foundation of your “why.” Take time to clarify what matters most to you.

Tip: Use a values card sort activity (like the one I offer in my coaching program) to identify your core values and how they align with your business.

2. Celebrate Wins (Big and Small)
It’s easy to lose sight of your progress when you’re focused on the grind. Take a moment to celebrate how far you’ve come.

  • Keep a “success journal” to document achievements, no matter how small.
  • Reflect on positive feedback from clients or customers.

3. Simplify Your Vision
Sometimes, losing your “why” is a sign you’ve overcomplicated things. Ask yourself:

  • What’s one small step I can take today to move closer to my vision?
  • Which tasks or commitments no longer align with my purpose?

The Power of Community in Rediscovering Your “Why”

Being an entrepreneur can feel isolating, especially when you’re neurodivergent. Surrounding yourself with a supportive community can reignite your passion and provide clarity.

Consider:

  • Joining a group of like-minded entrepreneurs.
  • Attending workshops that help you reconnect with your vision.

Reframing Challenges as Opportunities

“Your challenges don’t define you—they shape your unique strengths.” Use obstacles as a chance to refine your “why” and strengthen your commitment to what matters most.
